I found my parents’ copies of Art Spiegelman’s Maus and the Cartoon History of the Universe on our bookshelves, and Alison Bechdel’s Dykes to Watch Out For in a church library. My brother and I read an online comic called Restaurant together when we were in elementary school. We watched superhero cartoons on Saturday mornings and hung out at the local comic shop/gamer’s headquarters after school. I feel like I’ve always been surrounded by comics. Stories and pictures. They’re everywhere.
